Firstly on behalf of the Casuarina Rugby Union Club, I would like to that you all for your participation in our inaugral invitation 7’s tournament on Sunday. From our point of view it was well received and from all accounts was good for everyone to look at players in actual games rather than training. I know most of you still haven’t settled your team for the Hottest 7’s so it was great to see good numbers at the games yesterday. We would be keen to look at holding a similar competition next year 2 weeks out from the Hottest 7’s to again give local clubs and teams the best opportunity to showcase our talent in Darwin. It is hoped we will be a bit more orgainised and have a few more things in place.
To the referees thanks for your support of the local clubs and teams leading up to the Hottest 7’s by offering your time to officiate yesterday.
To our volunteers on the day, Danny Panapa (Tournament Official), Kathryn Heath (Bar & kitchen), Margaret Buba (Sports Trainer) & Vola Rosa & Aaron Rudduck (BBQ) and all those that helped out.
Tim, please pass on our thanks to your grounds crew, the field was in top condition and made for some great running rugby!
Congratulations to the Darwin Dingos on their win in the Final over the Cougars 21-14. It was, to claim an old cliché, truly a game of two halves with the Dingos dominating the first half with 3 unanswered tries and the Cougars running in 2 unanswered tries in the second half. With a light sprinkling of rain the game was destined to be a feast of both running and defencive rugby. Cougars looked to be on top early in the start of the final, until a couple of missed tackles led to the first of 3 tries by the Dingoes at about the 3 minute mark. The half time break saw a resurged Cougars who were not going down without a fight and fought back with 2 tries and only time was against them taking the game into extra time. |
